Research Group of Advanced Communications Engineering
was launched in April 1996 in Department of Electronics
and Information Systems,
Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University. Since then,
we are engaged in the research activities and education of ultra high-speed
optical communications and radio communications.
Our recent interests include photonic backbone networks as well as
radio access networks for multimidia communications in the next generation
with larger capacity and higher quality.
Optical solitons are one of the promising candidates as a carrier in photonic backbone networks, that may enable ultra high-speed transmission for long distance. We are studying soliton transmission improvements from a theoretical approach as well as experimental. We are also interested in architectures of IP/WDM networks.
At the same time, we are studying intelligent radio systems in access networks that require a large flexibility. We consider the combination of multiple access technologies and intelligent signal processing will meet the expectance.
Present teaching staffs are Prof. Ken-ichi Kitayama and Akihiro Maruta (Associate Professor). More than 30 students, both graduate students and undergraduates, belong to this laboratory.
