We generate ultra-short optical pulse with a few pico-second pulse width and
repetition rate more than 100 GHz by use of induced modulational instability.
Optical beat signal obtained from two LD's with slightly different wavelength
is launched into the properly designed optical fiber, where the signal is
compressed by balancing frequency chirp induced by both fiber dispersion and
nonlinearity.
