• Abstract : To date, approaches to coherent optical coding have used fibre-based devices for the coding/decodeing operation : placing practical limitations on the ultimate system throughput. Here, a photonic integrated lightwave circuit, based on the imbalanced interferometer in tandem with a modelocked laser diode is used to demonstrate optical phase encoding/decoding of a 10GHz pulse stream.
